Volcanoes Are Openings

Gouge out my swollen stomach from under my ribs
I want to be filled with lava

Churn my melted skin into magma
I will learn to launch fireballs from my lips

Keep me dormant
I will never feel cold or fear again

Lay flowers at my feet
Fortified by an earthy fever

Or flightless birds, or feathers
Or red rock fists

Or apologies
I hope I won’t miss my ashless eyes

From my father
