Geoffrey Aitken has recently retired and gained ‘emerging poet’ status here in outer suburban southern Adelaide. He has also returned to this region following 30 years living and teaching in central Australia. He reads at local ‘open mic’ and enjoys friends and family at close quarters.

plastic aesthetics
cosmetic surgery
has gained in popularity
and reasonably so
given disfigurement
but i’m wanting
my social conscience relaxed,
my pleasure centre augmented
and my injustice receptors
adjusted
enhancing the disregard override
i expect the right side of politics
could legislate
to endorse this procedure
