I will not birth a child, I will not — in this land where God has not restrained us where we cannot find home despite our wilderness, despite treading filthy water for days. Where mirrors are broken green bottles, liquid gold mixed with lime — in the mornings the nurses draw blood, tell me my veins are too thin; prick my skin until they find blood, until I grow a bruise like a country. In dark rooms a sharp silver needle, pink gloves, the sunset, the sunset. I am crying & the doctors stare. They do not know it is about my father. They inject dye into my uterus. They are alarmed at my hysteria.
